Dedications

How Does Love Go?
Dedicated to Elisha C. Length: 5:44 | File Size: 5.2 MB | Lyrics [How Does Love go?
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
You wouldn't want to look into my heart
It hurts worse than breaking a bone
Your bright eyes linger with me still
A teenage story we know
Love is a monster when you cage it inside
It's in our souls to give
I let mine out and still it tears me apart
But there's no alternative
]
| More Info [The second song I ever wrote in my whole life. I call it my "teenage overreaction song". I asked Elisha out in junior high, and she didn't quite say no, but I started thinking about the ideas around rejection. Ironically, the song was originally intended to be a response to Janet Jackson's song "That's the way Love Goes", and it shows in the first verse, but otherwise, the song ended up being about something else completely.]
How to Dream
Dedicated to Perry S. Length: 3:50 | File Size: 3.5 MB | Lyrics [How to Dream
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
Picking between one or two
Why not live your life and have both?
]
| More Info [In my teens and early twenties, I was of the mindset that I could only have one career for the rest of my life. However, my eyes were opened by my psychiatrist Perry, who suggested the idea that I could be a musician, but also be something else to pay the bills, or even take up something else I enjoy.]
I Could be Something Different
Dedicated to Neil Tennant. Length: 5:05 | File Size: 4.7 MB | Lyrics [I Could be Something Different
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
The Hall of Fame is the afterlife
For rebels who don't disagree
]
| More Info [In the liner notes of the Further Listening edition of the Pet Shop Boys album "Behaviour.", Neil Tennant spoke about how the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame crushes everything that the music was supposed to be about: Rebellion and freedom. It was an eye-opening experience for me, because I thought that it was an honour of sorts, but now I share Neil's opinion.]
I Like Your Lies
Dedicated to Jaymie N. Length: 4:19 | File Size: 4.0 MB | Lyrics [I Like Your Lies
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
It's easier to draw a dividing line
When one of us is just a cheating whore
]
| More Info [A song that started on a fictional story of deception within a relationship. When I re-wrote the song in 2006, it seemed natural that I would draw from my experiences with Jaymie. This song is the first time I allowed myself to get angry about what had happened between the two of us. Kind of a "tell-off" song.]
I Love you and you Know it
Dedicated to Kathleen Robertson. Length: 5:31 | File Size: 5.1 MB | Lyrics [I Love you and you Know it
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
You'll be young when I grow old
It seems that your old age is sold
]
| More Info [Originally written as a love song to Elisha C.. Later, it was re-written in dedication to actress Kathleen Robertson, who I had a crush on as a teenager.]
If Only you Knew
Dedicated to Krista H. Length: 4:07 | File Size: 3.8 MB | Lyrics [If Only you Knew
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
Every time our baby's dead
You don't know who did it, do you?
]
| More Info [A song inspired by alcohol and family abuse. It seemed to touch the heart of my friend Krista, (who designed this website) so the dedication goes out to her.]
I'm Glad you Were Here When my Heart Broke
Dedicated to Cory T. Length: 6:46 | File Size: 6.2 MB | Lyrics [I'm Glad you Were Here When my Heart Broke
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
You were the one who stood there beside me
After my kindred had quit
]
| More Info [A song I wrote for my best friend Cory in thanks for his being there for me when my life was at its lowest point in 2002. This rendition was produced by a MIDI synthesizer, so the guitar parts really aren't given the justice they deserve.]
Inside of me
Dedicated to J. Easton Length: 4:21 | File Size: 4.0 MB | Lyrics [Inside of me
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
I kill this thing inside of me
I kill this thing inside of me
When will I be free
Of this guilt inside of me?
]
| More Info [A song about various situations where the people involved choose to abort their pregnancy. In the first verse, a poor woman aborts her child, not wanting to subject them to such a low life. In the second, the person has already gone through it, and is regretting it greatly. In the third, a woman becomes pregnant and takes her own life, not able to survive on her own. This song was inspired during a religious studies class when I was 14. My teacher, Mrs. Easton, had brought up the subject of abortion, and she gave me some insights that I felt I had to expound upon.]
Mother, Mother
Dedicated to Sharon B. Length: 3:44 | File Size: 3.4 MB | Lyrics [Mother, Mother
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
And when I stop and think about it
In my special way
Does this mean I'm covered
For every Mother's Day?
]
| More Info [A song I wrote in dedication to my mother, naturally. I like the joke in the lyrics where I ask if this song is such a great present that I don't have to worry about future Mother's Day gifts.]
To Kill a Mockingbird
Dedicated to Peter G. Length: 4:02 | File Size: 3.7 MB | Lyrics [To Kill a Mockingbird
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
Now I know my life is better without you
]
| More Info [This song came to life after having lived for three torturous years with a very horrible person. The title is taken from the classic book of the same name, but in this case, the "mockingbird" is actually the Human soul. It is based heavily on themes from the song "Elemental" by Tears For Fears.]
We'll let you in
Dedicated to Andrea B. Length: 3:38 | File Size: 3.3 MB | Lyrics [We'll let you in
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
The world's a desert, it's ours to shape
With our fifty star tree

]
| More Info [A song inspired by George W. Bush's "war on terror". Ms. Andrea B. is the most politically intelligent person I know, and because of that, the song was dedicated to her.]
What I was Thinking
Dedicated to Jennifer S. Length: 5:48 | File Size: 5.4 MB | Lyrics [What I was Thinking
(Music: Dan Big Plume Lyrics: Dan Big Plume)
I see you in the hallway, can you read my mind?
I don't know how to tell you
Of all the things you'd find
]
| More Info [A song I wrote about a time I approached a girl I liked in high school. Like any guy in love, my heart and mind were both racing, but of course, my mouth could barely speak. In the end, the risk was worth taking, and I was quite pleased with myself. Sometimes, things just have to be done.]
